What's the deal with SPAM HAM?
August 4th 2008 13:31
I went to a kids birthday party yesterday, it was for my cousins 2 kids, the family goes off to the Netherlands for a few months out of the year to pick tulips or something... The kids have their birthdays while they are gone so we celebrate them when they get back.
Good thing about kids parties is all the kids food, like little Milky Way Bar Cars with smarties for wheels being driven by Tiny Teddies, cute and tasty.
So anyway generally when we have a celebration it is usually a BBQ, lots of meat. Lots of homemade salad too, which is good for my wife and I, however there are something you need to be careful of.
For example my Mum came into the lounge area where I was with my daughter and wife. We were feeding our daughter her first taste of vegetables, yes she will be a vego too.
Mum says to me, you have to have some of your Aunties potato salad, I asked my Mum if it had any meat in it?
Mum said "No, it's potato salad."
I thought OK cool, I will get some.
I went out to the table where all the food was and started to load up my plate and one for my wife (it's the kind of husband I am) so I had grabbed the serving spoon from the potato salad and my cousin says...
"Hey, what are you doing?
I said "What?" Still holding the spoon.
He said "That's got Spam Ham in it" and also went on to tell me the pasta salad had the SPAM HAM juice in it. (Which I late found out didn't, he was only teasing)
I obviously didn't take the potato salad, accepted Mum's apology too.
I thought to myself though, who (apart from my Auntie puts SPAM HAM in salad?
Then I thought who uses SPAM HAM period?
I had always thought SPAM HAM was a; use in case of cyclone or nuclear meltdown food.
Do people actually eat SPAM HAM, I never got to try it when I was a meat eater, but that's my other point, is it really meat? I mean how can meat keep good in a can?
I could be naive but I would love to know if anyone else thinks along the same lines as me on this one... Send thru a comment and let me know.

And BTW, I wouldnt eat SPAM if someone paid me, it smells worse than catfood and I also believed it to be only used in case of cyclone or nuclear meltdown food.
