Anyone for Take Away?
July 17th 2008 13:00
So today was an average day, good day at work, not so much fun at home.
Neither my wife (Danielle) or I felt like cooking, she suggested Red Rock, which if you don't know is basically a noodle bar. You can go in and have a meal or you can take away.
We opted for the takeaway, seeing as Danielle wasn't feeling the best.
I pre-ordered on the way to pick up the meal.
This is how the phone call went:
Adam: Tom Yum Soup no vegetables no seafood no nothing, just the liquid thanks.
Red Rock: Sure would you like any meat in the soup?
Adam: No thanks, just the broth will be fine.
Red Rock: OK, would you like just vegetable in the soup?
Adam: Ummm, no thanks, just the broth.
...Silence...
Red Rock: Broth? I can imagine the look of confucious, I mean confusion...
Adam: Yes please, sounds great! I would also lile fried kway teow noodles with vegetables and tofu, with extra chili.
Red Rock: Tofu noodle kway teow, extra chili?
Adam: Yes please with vegetables.
Red Rock: As well as tofu?
Adam: Yes thanks, that would be great, also I would like hokkien noodles with tofu cut small and vegetables.
Red Rock: You want any chicken of beef?
Adam: No thanks, we are vegetarian.
Red Rock: Oh, you no like meat?
Adam: No thanks, let me also get some prawn crackers please.
Red Rock: Why you no like meat?
I avoided the question cause I could tell the answer would take a while, I asked how much and how long...
So I got there, paid for my stuff and as they handed me the order, the staff behind the counter who I has speaking to on the phone repeats my order.
But loudly adds at the end of it all "NO MEAT"
Like I was some sort of freak?
The first time I have been made to feel out of place cause I don't eat meat in a take away shop.
I replied with, yeah you never know what they replace chicken with these days and walked out...
I would love to hear if anyone else has been made to feel like an outcast for being a vego, please feel free to share?
