What's the health benefits?

August 8th 2008 12:49
As I mentioned in a previous blog my wife, Hollie and I went to my cousins house to celebrate their kids birthdays. While we were there they put on a BBQ for everyone, very nice of them, if you eat meat, now we don't expect everyone to cater to us vegos but, when someone says,

"Oh I got calamari for you to eat", when we get there, you or anyone would expect that it was cooked and ready to be eaten on the table or something when all the rest of the food is served up?

No, not this time round. No calamari to be seen...

Not to worry we had a small selection of salads to choose from. That was nice.

Something funny happened to my wife though, she was talking to my cousin trying to explain as to why we are now vegetarian. Danielle was doing her best to explain why we changed our eating plan to no longer include meat or chicken.

I wasn't there for the conversation which I had actually started a few says prior when I rang my cousin to see if she would like us to make or bring something. It's the kind of guy I am.

Back to the story, my cousin had asked so what are the health benefits of not eating meat or chicken?

Danielle went on to say one thing we learnt about chicken, when we attened Anthony Robbins Seminar in Sydney - Unleash the Power Within 08 last year was that when we eat chicken, it is like eating chicken which has been soaked in your toilet.

My cousin then went on to say, "Yeah, but what are the health benefits?"

Kwik Stix

August 5th 2008 12:46
Today was a good day, OK yes I went to work but we got taken out for lunch whichwas nice, our team did something good so that was our reward. As a team we walked over to Kwik Stix which is a Thai restaurant, the service is very quick so you don't have to wait long. There was 16 of us in total, everyone scanned the menu for something they would like.

It didn't take long for everyone to decide what they would like, I probably took the longest but all meals were ordered at the same time, so you would think they would all come out at the same time...

Well not this time round, so mine was the last to be served, I ordered a vegetarian noodle dish with vegetables.

When I finally got my meal about 3 minutes after the 2nd to last was served they served mine with wait for it...chicken...

I got up and walked to the counter, I explained to the staff what I had ordered, they had the nerve to tell me that what I had in my hand was in fact what I had ordered. So I ordered a Thai Basil vegetable dish with noodles. I confirmed that there was no chicken in that order. She said it comes with chicken, I asked how could it if I didn't ask for chicken?

The chef came out...

I continues the debate with the chef, who again insisted I had in my hand what I had ordered, I explained it to him, I pointed to the details on his menu, he pointed out other things including something on the kids menu, which obviously made no sense.

So at this point we (me the customer and bonehead the chef) are having an argument. In the end I take a deep breath and say to bonehead, I am a vegetarian I did not order anything with chicken, if you believe I have it is only because your menu is too confusing.

I told bonehead all I was after was Thai Basil vegetables with noodles. He said OK.

A minute later the first staff member I had spoken to bought out a dish from the kitchen, put it in front of me and said, "Is that OK?"

I looked at the dish which consisted of I guess Thai Basil vegetables but no noodles, instead there was a serving of rice on the dish...

I took another deep breath and said "No, that's not OK, I ordered noodles!"

She took the plate from in front of me and yelled out to the kitchen, he wanted noodles.

30 seconds later the dish I had originally ordered came out of the kitchen, it was really tasty too, I am afraid they might have added something special to it, and I will let you know if they have, if I start to feel ill. I ate it about 7 hours ago, I feel fine at the moment.

So even though the meal was tasty I won't be back due to poor customer service and less than average staff who clearly can not listen. I wasn't the only one disappointed either, a lot of the other guys were just as annoyed. It's a good team... What effects one effects all.

What's the deal with SPAM HAM?

August 4th 2008 13:31
I went to a kids birthday party yesterday, it was for my cousins 2 kids, the family goes off to the Netherlands for a few months out of the year to pick tulips or something... The kids have their birthdays while they are gone so we celebrate them when they get back.

Good thing about kids parties is all the kids food, like little Milky Way Bar Cars with smarties for wheels being driven by Tiny Teddies, cute and tasty.

So anyway generally when we have a celebration it is usually a BBQ, lots of meat. Lots of homemade salad too, which is good for my wife and I, however there are something you need to be careful of.

For example my Mum came into the lounge area where I was with my daughter and wife. We were feeding our daughter her first taste of vegetables, yes she will be a vego too.
Mum says to me, you have to have some of your Aunties potato salad, I asked my Mum if it had any meat in it?

Mum said "No, it's potato salad."

I thought OK cool, I will get some.

I went out to the table where all the food was and started to load up my plate and one for my wife (it's the kind of husband I am) so I had grabbed the serving spoon from the potato salad and my cousin says...

"Hey, what are you doing?

I said "What?" Still holding the spoon.

He said "That's got Spam Ham in it" and also went on to tell me the pasta salad had the SPAM HAM juice in it. (Which I late found out didn't, he was only teasing)

I obviously didn't take the potato salad, accepted Mum's apology too.

I thought to myself though, who (apart from my Auntie puts SPAM HAM in salad?

Then I thought who uses SPAM HAM period?

I had always thought SPAM HAM was a; use in case of cyclone or nuclear meltdown food.

Do people actually eat SPAM HAM, I never got to try it when I was a meat eater, but that's my other point, is it really meat? I mean how can meat keep good in a can?
I could be naive but I would love to know if anyone else thinks along the same lines as me on this one... Send thru a comment and let me know.

What's for dinner?

July 31st 2008 12:56
Tonight was going to be a quick dinner night, we had heaps to do and my wife had a study partner coming over. I decided it would be pasta with my own special vego sauce.
Now I know pasta does not sound all that interesting but it's what you put in that makes it interesting.

Curry in a Hurry

July 28th 2008 13:20
Today had been a long day, we did a fair bit of moving around, as Hollie (our daughter) will soon be needing her own room. We will need to do some room shifting soon, dining room to the lounge area, office to the dining room, office becomes Hollie's bedroom.

I am really looking forward to getting some stuff for her room from IKEA, that is our favourite furniture/home decoration shop at the moment. We love it

Mushroom Ragout on Papdelle

July 25th 2008 12:15
Every now and then we like to try something different, this particular recipe I found in our newspaper, so I can not claim this one as my own, I have reproduced it here for you to try if you like...
So special thanks to The Advertiser Indulge Section Wednesday June 11, 2008, which incidentally was my wifes birthday...
I made this tonight and enjoyed it, all the mushrooms were hard to track down but we managed to find them at the Central Market on Gouger Street in the city, if you live in and around Adelaide you will know where the market is

We forgot the lettuce

July 19th 2008 13:13
Today was an even worse day than yesterday. The news we didn't want to hear was delivered to us this afternoon. Time to re-assess the situation and work out where to from here.

Anyway, we decided yesterday that we would also have fish tonight. Some of you will know that I am not a complete vegetarian and I don't claim to be, it's just easier to say that then explain I am a pescavore
